In summer 2005, famous Sarajevo chefs made their long-awaited introduction to the Belgrade food scene with “Sarajevski”, first restaurant in Belgrade to offer Sarajevo specialties.

“Sarajevski” is located in in the heart of Belgrade, a historic and oldest neighborhood of Belgrade – Dorćol. Restaurant was opened with one goal – to enable Belgraders to enjoy Sarajevo specialties, primarily the famous barbecue.

In spring 2015, “Sarajevski” made a move towards modern bar restaurant, while maintaining the traditional spirit and charm of the place.

Restoraunt is housed in an historic building in Dušanova street, once well-known restaurant “Užička Kremna” that has been recast in 2015 by a team of architects in a “rough” mix of wood, brick and wrought iron.

That was the moment when owners turned to StrongWeb, giving us opportunity to incorporate our ideas into the restaurant’s new look & feel.

Challenge was to create an identity that would represent traditional restaurant but transplanted to a urban downtown setting.

We had the honor of working alongside Sarajevski’s executives and the team of architects and artisans (who spent four months on the renovation) so that the new identity would reflect both restaurant’s new interior design, as well as the building’s former life as a traditional “kafana”.

We created a typographic logo that works well both in traditional and modern setting and combines the flavors and ambience of Bosnian grill with those of the classic American barbecue and stakehouse.

Typographic part of the logo – inscription of the restaurant’s name, is done in combination of letters deriving from modernist typefaces, with mannered curves and straight terminals.

Print menus are oversized and serve as table cloths, in the style of the classic steakhouse, with decorative borders resembling motifs from Bosnian carpets.

Typography throughout menus and other print materials is set in combination of sans serif and serif typefaces (Gotham and Caslon).

Logo appears throughout the space: stitched on waiter uniforms; etched onto wooden tableware containers; on pub-like coasters, wall posters and product packaging.

Wall posters with blown-out grilled meat photographs are displayed on eye-catching wall in the dining room.
